Fika – an essential part of Swedish culture – symbolizes slowing down, reconnecting with yourself and those closest to you, and replenishing your cup on a deeper level.
At Fika Newborn, whether you’re preparing to have your first baby or your fourth, we believe bringing this life-enhancing ritual to the postpartum world can nourish your experience – for the better.
During one of Terese’s visits to Eastern Europe, she became accustomed to Swedish traditions – one being Fika. Each day, she’d participate in putting together something sweet or walking down to the local market to grab treats and tea for the afternoon’s practice. The slower-paced lifestyle and communion filled the room with joy as everyone gathered around the table.
With an intimate understanding of the tradition, Terese aspires to bring that same light into each home she has the honor of entering – a sense of calm and peace in the moments she’s caring for you and your growing family.
Clients choose Terese to step into the role of postpartum doula and newborn specialist due to her blend of education, lived experience, an evidence-based yet relaxed approach, and compassionate care.
Apart from helping parents and babies feel at ease, she’s also riding the wave with you as a mother to three children and licensed foster parent. Terese lovingly strives to be the peaceful presence that nourishes your family during this tender time. She’s inclusive of all family dynamics and seasoned in high-risk pregnancies, fertility struggles, loss, medically fragile children, and adoption.
“We hired Terese to help us with our newborn son at nighttime so we could get some much-needed sleep, and our experience with her went beyond our expectations. She is kind, professional, reliable, and has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to babies and postpartum. I knew I could fully trust her with our baby and did not worry when he was in her care.”
WHAT WE CARE ABOUT
While we emphasize mothering the mother, we believe the whole family is worthy of equal love and attention. By ensuring everyone is well cared for, there’s more room to recover, rest, learn, process, bond, and find harmony – even in the thick of it.
As a new or expecting parent, you need to feel seen and heard. You also deserve support systems that lean in and affirm what you’re going through. We take our time to cultivate a sacred setting – free from the distracting mainstream parenting paradigm – to do mindful work that will serve you well.
Support shouldn’t run out after your postpartum chapter ends. We focus on individualized, simplified, ongoing solutions that feel natural to you and your family. That way, you can feel better equipped to apply the wellness and care education you gather to your everyday.
